This handmade cheese from Royal Deeside was a family favourite in the 70's when Barbara Reid made it for home consumption on the farm. They now produce a delicious range of raw milk cheeses including one called Lairig Grhu, a crumbly tangy cheese named after the famous mountain pass... and yes I have actually managed to walk this - once!
You will find their cheeses at local farmer's markets.

Near Tobermory, the dairy also has a wee farm shop, with a delightful garden and wishing gate you have to make your way through to get to it! Family of organic dairy farmers in the Scottish Highlands by Inverness making superb award winning vegetarian cheeses. Kathy and David are internationally renowned for cheesemaking workshops where many current cheesemakers learnt their craft .
They produce wonderful cheeses and world class crème fraiche, ice cream and yoghurt and have an onsite shop in the pretty crofting village of Achmore where they sell their own ice cream and cheeses subject to availability. One of their delicious ice creams is with Isle of Skye Fudge - a nice highland connection.
Prize-winning smokery, taking local cheeses and other produce to create distinctive tastes and aromas. It was due to a post war milk surplus that the Orcadians started producing their cheese at all and this smokery won yet another award as recently as 2011 Royal Highland Show Cheese Awards. Orkney Cheddar has a tradition dating back centuries, when crofters’ wives would supplement their meagre income by selling excess handmade cheeses. The cheese was first made in 1946 but in 2000 26 dairy farmers set up a co-operative to take over full production of The Orkney Creamery. 20 of those farmers still oversee the creamery and the entire process today – from the rearing of the dairy cows through to the final product …. the multi-award winning Orkney Cheddar. Family business in the far north with a herd of Friesian cows. Their neat cheddar styled rounds are distinctive for their range of flavoured cheeses with cheery coloured wax coats to differentiate the range.
A traditional dairy business, these unpasteurized cheeses are greatly admired using a traditional family recipe handed down through the generations. This particular one is a light white slightly crumbly cheese made from cows' milk, deliciously zesty.
The Stone family has a fine reputation for producing Galic, Caboc & many more. Made in the Highlands of Scotland and widely available in many good delis.
Look out for Jane at this year's Gardening Scotland 2013 at Scottish Food Guide Pavilion............Visit Fife's only farmhouse cheesemakers. The glass wall allows you to watch the action and Jane's cheeses are a delicious asset to this lovely region. Scotland’s leading yogurt producer has been producing pots of goodness for years and now Rowan Glen is extending its range to drinking yogurt, with the launch of Scotland’s first home produced probiotic drink. Fruit yoghurts and deliciously creamy low fat plain ones available too and suppliers to top schools.
A relatively new cheesemaker and already winning awards. Barwheys is a hard Ayrshire cheese from the unpasteurised milk of their pedigree Ayrshire cattle. The handmade cheeses are bandaged in traditional cotton cheesecloth, and carefully aged on wooden shelves for between 9 and 12 months. Some are smoked and there is also a new arrival on the scene, in limited supply, the Barwheys Beastie - a mature wonderfully complex cheese destined for Burns Suppers.

Mrs McMyn's hens must thank their lucky feathers that they can roam freely over this idyllic spot off the Solway Coast. On this organic farm the family includes their brood of Lohmann hens, a herd of suckler cows, a flock of sheep and even two alpacas who watch over the hens!
